Virality Scores
How ViralDeck scores each video from 0–100 and how to use the score to find breakout content.
What the virality score is
Every tracked video gets a virality score from 0 to 100 — a weighted composite that measures how strongly a video is outperforming, based on its latest metrics. It is designed to surface breakout content that raw view counts alone would miss.
Videos with no views yet show Pending instead of a score.
How the score is calculated
The score combines five components:
| Component | Weight | What it measures | |-----------|--------|------------------| | Share ratio | 30% | Shares relative to views — a 3% share rate scores the maximum | | Outperformance | 25% | Views compared to the creator's median video — 20× the median scores the maximum | | Engagement rate | 20% | Likes + comments + shares + bookmarks relative to views — 15% scores the maximum | | Growth velocity | 15% | Views per day since publishing — 1M views/day scores the maximum | | Hook presence | 10% | Whether the video has a transcribed opening hook |
Outperformance and velocity use logarithmic scales, so a video doesn't need extreme numbers to score well — consistent overperformance counts.
Score ranges
| Score | Meaning | |-------|---------| | 80–100 | Breakout — significantly outperforming on multiple components | | 60–79 | Above average — worth analyzing what worked | | 30–59 | Average — performing in line with expectations | | 0–29 | Below average — underperforming the creator's baseline |
